Facial Skin Care For Men: 5 Things You Need To Do

In recent times, men have begun to understand that we suffer the same skin care issues as women. The media outlets tend to focus more on women than they do men when it comes to skin care, grooming, beauty and so on, which is why it has taken men so long to begin to start practising skin care routines. Wrinkles, pimples, acne, dry skin are just a few examples of the same issues men and women face.

Now we know what common issues men also face with their skin, the question is, how do men go about creating a face care routine to improve their skin?

It’s no secret that there are many differences between women and men when it comes to skin and face care. One of the biggest differences? Women in general spend a lot of money on skin care products and they are happy to do so because they care for their appearance, whereas, men simply don’t spend much on skin care products because they tend to think they don’t have too or they believe it is “girly” to do so, which simply isn’t true.

Another big difference between men and women is that women will purchase products for a particular issue they wish to do something about, whereas, men tend to keep things simple and just purchase a product that are multi-purpose.

But guys…

This has to change!

We need to start taking care of our skin and create ourselves a face care routine. Our faces are our first impression, whether you like that statement or not, it is true.

Also, who wants to walk around with spots, wrinkles and/or a dry face if we they don’t need to? Not me that’s for sure.

I have put together a great all-purpose face care routine for men which you can follow.

Face care doesn’t need to be expensive, it just needs to be the right products.

Cleanse Morning And Evening.

We collect sweat and dirt on our faces all day and night-time is no exception. Our faces also shed dead skin cells all day and night.

In order to remove these impurities from our skin, we need to use a gentle yet effective face cleanser. I recommend you put the bar soap down as they tend to dry your skin because they remove the good oils your skin needs to be hydrated and healthy.

Our Recommended Cleanser: L’Oreal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Facial Cleanser.

This awesome cleanser will help you battle the five most common problems caused by our daily lives: Oily skin, built-up dirt, dryness, dullness, and clogged pores.

This face wash, which is specifically formulated for us men, will eliminate impurities and excess oil thanks to the added charcoal, which will give you a fresher and healthier look.

This cleanser will also add hydration to your skin, which will fight off the dullness look we sometimes get, as well as solve any dryness problems we get.

Exfoliate

Our skin builds new skin cells everyday which means it also sheds dead skin cells. This dead skin cells are important to remove as they can cause pimples, acne and other irritations to the face.

Therefore, I recommend you Exfoliate once or twice a week.

Our Recommended Exfoliator: Brickell Men’s Exfoliator

This exfoliator is great for removing dead skin cells as it contain Jojoba beads. It also energizes your skin thanks to the Coffee Extract & Green Tea that’s added into this product.

Moisturise

Our facial skin takes a battering every single day. All the day to day activities we do, has an impact on our skin. From dirt, dead skin cells to our environment, all contribute to our facial skins health. Therefore, a good moisturizer is a must to help our skin recover from the battering it takes daily. Some experts suggest you should moisturise in the morning and prior to going to bed. However, I would say once a day is sufficient and before bed being the best time. Throughout the day, our skin suffers, so it would make sense to moisturise it just before bed, so that the product can help the skin recover throughout the night, so it is ready for the next day.

Our Recommended Moisturizer: Jack Black Face Moisturizer

Jack Black are an excellent brand that pride themselves on using natural ingredients to create their awesome products. There beard oil is seriously impressive and so is their face moisturizer for men. It contains many nutrients that your skin will benefit from such as antioxidants and vitamins. This moisturizer will keep your skin hydrated for a long and it will also offer UVA/UVB protection if you use it in the morning, which will help shield your face from aging caused by the sun.

Take Care Of That Beard.

If you rock a beard then it is important not only to keep your beard healthy but also the skin beneath the beard. Many bearded men suffer from dryness, dandruff, itchiness and/or rashes under the beard because they don’t think to take care of the skin beneath their mane.

The skin beneath the beard is extremely important. If the skin under the beard is unhealthy, you can guarantee the beard will not be healthy either.

If you notice that your beard is dry, coarse and/or wiry, then chances are, it is the result of the skin beneath your beard suffering from dryness. It is likely the same if you suffer from dandruff in your beard.

Therefore, a good beard oil which despite the name, is designed for the skin beneath your beard, will help combat any dryness and improve the health of the skin beneath your beard which as a result will make your beard a lot more healthier.

When selecting a beard oil, ALWAYS go for a an all-natural beard oil. Never purchase a beard oil that contains fillers like silicone.

Shaving

After shaving, many men suffer from ingrown hairs, razor burn and other skins irritations. This happens because the razor blades scrape the surface of the skin which leaves the skin in a vulnerable position. When you add a product to the skin after shaving, sometimes you may experience your skin starts to sting. This is caused by products that contains an irritate that reacts with your skin.

If you find that you have a rash after shaving, this is most probably because of the product you used prior, during or after shaving that stubble. There are hundreds if not thousands of products that contain ingredients which sound great on the label but in reality they are irritates to the skin. The most common ingredients which are known to cause irritations to the skin are; alcohol, menthol, peppermint and camphor. If you currently get irritations from your shaving products, I would suggest having a look at the ingredients in the product(s) to see if they contain any of these ingredients. If they do, chuck it away and look for an all-natural product that doesn’t contain a scent.

It is always a good idea to purchase shaving gels, foams and creams that contain natural ingredients which also moisturise, calm and soothe skin. Aloe vera based products are usually a good way to go. If you look for a shaving product and you see the word “enriched”, it would be worth having a look at the ingredients, as shaving products with “enriched” written on them, often mean they contain ingredients which helps moisturise and soothe skin, instead of drying the skin out. Alcohol-free shaving products are usually a safe bet also when you want a shaving product that doesn’t irritate the skin.

Exfoliate one or two times a week to remove dead skin cells from your face. Moisture daily to keep your faces skin well hydrated and keep dryness at bay. Use a good beard oil to keep that beard and skin healthy and if you shave and suffer from rashes, razor burn or ingrown hairs, check your razor and swap them irritating shaving products for natural shaving products loaded with goodness.
